My High School Art teacher saw a gift and talent in me. She helped guide and grow my art, photography skills and knowledge. She brought creativity and confidence I didn’t see in myself. Ms Jensen encouraged and helped me assemble a well rounded portfolio to apply to the College for Creative Studies. When I was excepted I couldn’t thank her enough. Fast forward a few years when the Elementary School I’ve been working in had an Art Teacher position open up. Having a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree I was excited to inquire about filling the position. After a couple rounds of interviews I was offered the position with the condition of continuing my Education and completing the Art Teaching Certification program at College for Creative Studies..
From drawing and painting to sculpture, digital art and photography, I teach a wide range of programs for students grades K - 12th with all skill levels. My curriculum is designed to help students develop their technical skills while also encouraging experimentation and creativity. They learn to conceptualize, explore and try new materials and ways to create successful outcomes they are excited to showcase.
My 6th - 12th grade photography students learn about the camera as a tool and how to best get it to achieve the desired look or outcome. They learn to to compose and frame when looking through the view finder and notice how different focal length lenses play a part in changing the overall look of an image.
